Resin Bound Installation

Every installation requirements are different.  The extent of work required to achieve a beautiful finish alongside the fundamental importance of durability can only be accessed on site with an inspection.

Resin has fast become a product that is used for overlaying existing hard standing areas. Driveways that are deemed to be of good quality through inspection that are made of concrete and tarmac are ideal for overlay purposes. These types of surfaces can provide customers with a hassle-free and affordable solution whilst transforming the area. It is necessary in these circumstances to provide new edging restraints where required, drainage pegs to be inserted into the surface and a primer applied to aid the bonding process of the new aggregate top coat.

Unfortunately, as a company along with our partners in providing insurance backed guarantees have made a conscious decision to not overlay existing block paving on a driveway area due to possible movement.

Excavation and New Base

Where an existing surface is not deemed to be in a useable condition then it is required that we will excavate the area and install a new base.  This is always undertaken when existing areas looking to be upgraded are gravel/shingle, blockpaving and grass.

Excavations will be carried out with a mini digger where access allows, all material will be removed from site and new edgings set where specified by the customer.

The newly installed base is 250-350mm deep and will consist of Type1 limestone that is compressed and a C35 concrete slab with required drainage holes for compliance. Once the concrete is installed it is advisable that it is left to cure for 7-28 days dependant on weather conditions. During this curing time, the area is usable. Sub-bases can be added on to any surface deemed usable allowing customers to change designs of areas i.e widening driveways.

Resin Spread

The Resin Bound surface itself is formed by mixing choice kiln dried aggregates in a forced action mixer to allow for a consistent finish with specialist resin.  The mix is then hand troweled to give a smooth flat surface that is hard wearing yet durable and crack resistant. The mix is applied between 15-24mm dependant on surface undulation and will only be spread on dry days where the temperature is higher than 10 degrees C.  All newly spread surfaces should be left 24 hours before walking on them and we ask all customers to give 72 hours before using an area for vehicles.

Sustainable Urban Drainage System

Since October 2008, legislation states that any paving at the front of a property has to be permeable and SuDS compliant.

The Resin Bound product we use is a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS) that deals with surface water run-off in an environmentally friendly way, mimicking natural drainage by allowing water to drain through its surface.

The nature of the system is an open matrix which allows water to disperse quickly through to a sub base enabling flood prevention and water contamination.

There is a number of scenarios available to give each installation a bespoke finish. Finished surfaces have a choice of edgings ranging from colouring paving blocks to treated railway sleepers and stainless metal trims.  Recessed manhole covers and inspection lids are used and filled with chosen colours to leave a seamless finish.
